Senator Ann H. Rest
Ann H. Rest, President ProTem of the Senate, represents SD 45 serving western suburbs of Hennepin County. She was first elected to the Senate in 2000, and was recently re-elected to her fifth term in 2012. She served as the Assistant Majority Leader from 2003 to 2007.
Rest represented District 46A in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1985 to 2001 where she chaired the Tax Committee (1993-1997).
Rest is the Vice-Chair of the Tax Committee and chairs the Tax Reform Division. Other committee assignments include the following: Transportation and Public Safety, State Departments and Veterans Division, and the Elections Sub-Committee of Rules. Rest chairs the bi-national Great Lakes Legislative Caucus and is a member of the Great Lakes Commission, the Legislative Audit Commission, and the Capitol Preservation Commission.
Rest received a B.A. in Latin and Greek from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She has earned graduate degrees from the Univer- sity of Chicago, Harvard University, and the University of Minnesota. She is a former Latin and English teacher and is a retired CPA.
