David J. Tomassoni (born December 5, 1952) hails from Chisholm and represents the newly formed Sen- ate District 6 which now includes large portions of both St. Louis and Itasca counties in northeastern Minnesota. The 2013 session marks the beginning of his 21st year in the legislature. He is serving his 5th term in the Minnesota Senate and currently chairs the Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture Budget Division. He is also a member of the Transportation and Public Safety Policy and Budget Division, Capital Investment, and Finance Committees. Prior to being elected to the Senate in 2000, Tomassoni served four consecutive terms as State Representative for District 5B.
Tomassoni also serves on the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission, the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council, the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Re- sources (LCCMR), the Legislative Energy Commission.
After graduating from Chisholm High School, Tomassoni attended the University of Denver on a hockey scholarship graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1975. Following college, his hockey career found its way to Italy for the next 16 years. He also played in four World Championships winning two gold medals and in the 1984 Winter Olympics for the Italian National Hockey Team in Sarajevo.
Tomassoni and his wife, Charlotte, have three children and four grandchildren.
